If you’ve been a long time reader of my blog you may have noticed things are looking a little different around here! Mostly with a name change, with a few little tweaks of images, widget placements and branding. I’m so excited to finally be sharing these changes with you all as this rebrand has been in the works for quite some time (since March 2017 in fact!).
It may seem somewhat random that I am changing my name/rebranding, but the reality is that when I decided on Maddie’s Beauty Spot in March 2015, I was excited to rush start my blog with the first thing I thought of, and I loved having my name in my blog. Fast forward two years and I have been experimenting with different types of content such as blogging, homewares, and fashion, which have all been well received! I didn’t resonate with keeping my name in my blog title and really wanted something that didn’t sound like many other blog names.
When I first started blogging, I was passionate about hauls, drugstore and the occasional high-end purchase, and finding dupes for high end or difficult-to-get-in-Australia drugstore items. Nowadays I prefer to read and write “empties” for more thorough reviews, declutter posts, organisation posts, round up posts, and blogging posts. I prefer to discuss mindful consuming and the idea of beauty blogging with a minimalist vibe rather than mindless hauls constantly (I still love hauls, just can’t consume them constantly, and find the idea of constantly buying stuff a bit sickening).
In early January 2017, I started feeling like something was missing from my brand. I started feeling disconnected from my blog because I felt like it was childish and didn’t sum up what I wanted to say. I toyed with the idea of having my first and middle name, my first and last name…. none of them fit with what I wanted to say about my blog. I also didn’t want to stick my blog with my name because what if I ever changed my name? The thoughts were endless.
I spent a lot of time stressed about the name of my site, and it also helped as a distraction in the last year, when I was stressed at work which was good in hindsight. I asked friends and family constantly what they thought of me changing my blog name, as I feel like it’s a huge part of me (somewhat secret, but huge to those who know about it). Changing my blog name meant changing my logo, social media handles, changed website, and stacks of work behind the scenes to change all my assets across the web and update my name and email on basically everything! I was feeling embarrassed about my blog name when sharing on Facebook networking sites and in person blogging events, and I knew I had to do something about it.
I finally feel like my blog name fits my brand and the things I care about. It fits my personality, and also my corner of the internet. Palettes are definitely my collected beauty item and something I use every time I do my makeup, whether it be an eyeshadow, face or lip palette.
In terms ofthe technical side of it, as you can imagine, I am still finding links I have to redirect, and photos among other things to change. If you do notice anything out of place, please send me an email or a message to let me know – I’d really appreciate it!
What Can You Expect At “From The Palette”:
Beauty in terms of mindful consuming, cruelty-free products, roundups, best of’s, and product reviews. Fashion and homewares in terms of collages and whatnot are more my style, I am also toying with the idea of having a capsule wardrobe series. I certainly enjoy writing about blogging and social media (it also helps that my paid job focusses on this as well) so there will be more of this in terms of what I have learnt, and what I do. I genuinely find it so interesting to read from other bloggers, there aren’t enough bloggers talking about it from a beauty blogging perspective! I’m hesitant to label my blog as a lifestyle blog as it is inherently beauty, with homewares, basic fashion, and blogging thrown in.
