I am a bit behind on writing my finished products posts for the year, so this will have an extra month or so, but boy did I manage to use a load of products this month!
I have separated my empties into skin care, both body and face, and makeup to make it a little easier. I’ve put a huge focus on using up products lately, and not purchasing more of that item as I was just having a severe overflow of items.
I received a sachet sample of this in a Mecca Beauty Loop in April and I actually really enjoyed it! I have wanted to try it for ages and it really lived up to expectations. The cream was gel-like in consistency and depuffed the undereye area. A sachet lasted me about a week, and it didn’t leave a greasy residue.
Repurchase: I’d like to try a bigger sample and then see!
I’ve had a few of these bath bombs and they never disappoint. This one is super colourful and fun, which is really its only criteria to be marked against! Would recommend this one if you’re looking for a ‘fun’ bath bomb, it wasn’t moisturising or anything.
Repurchase: Definitely, I usually buy this in the value packs.
I got this three years ago when I interned for The Red Republic/Lulu & Lipstick in 2014, and I’ve only just used it. It was super runny (this may be because of the age), but really moisturising. It did leave an oily/greasy residue, however.
Repurchase: No, it wasn’t one of my favourites because it was messy and greasy.
I didn’t know I would like this so much when I first used it! I received this in our goody bags at a Bloggers Christmas Event we held last year. This was one of those times where I hadn’t heard much about the brand, and I wanted to get back to using my favourite moisturisers but I thought I would use up the ones I was least excited about first. It turned out to exceed my expectations! It has a creamy consistency and is mousse like in texture. This moisturiser dries quickly and without fuss, and sits well under makeup.
Repurchase: Yes, although I think Priceline has phased it out, so I will need to suss that out.
I received this sachet in my last Mecca Beauty Loop, and heard it was fantastic! I enjoyed the product’s effects. It had a runny gel-like texture, and smelt delicious!
Repurchase: I will be in the market for a new serum soon, so I’ll get a proper sample and try it out.
I received this at a PR event for Divine Woman last year. I loved the smell of this, citrusy and like Summer. The texture was mousse like, and creamy. I found this a bit too creamy, to be honest, I always had to dab it off with a tissue, even after only using a small amount, and that was annoying.
Repurchase: No, it wasn’t one of my favourites for my skin. I love everything the brand stands for however, I have enjoyed their other products.
I picked this up in Singapore Sephora last year and I really enjoyed it. It was supposed to be a dupe for Glam Glow, which it is obviously not, but nonetheless, it works well to dry down on your face and thoroughly cleanse your pores. My skin always felt fresh and slightly exfoliated afterwards, which is what I want in a face mask. I didn’t actually get to finish this, it fully dried about 2/3 of the way through, even though I tried mixing water in the jar, I couldn’t get it to move. It was quite cheap though, so I’m not mad!
Repurchase: Yes, I have a few similar masks to get through first though!
Sephora Avocado Sheet Mask (unable to find on the website anymore)
I sometimes buy these when I am at Sephora just for fun, because sheet masks are not really my thing, they just aren’t made for my face! This was received this as a Sephora free sample when I purchased a foundation there so I thought I may as well use it. I have used this one before, it has a great scent, and leaves a lovely residue on my face which I always massage in afterwards.
I received this bottle in a Marie Claire The Parcel subscription box I am fairly sure! I really enjoyed this, and I hadn’t previously tried anything from Avene. It was the perfect no fuss micellar water. The product did a great job removing makeup, not as well at mascara, however. I loved the packaging as it was easy to open with a pop top instead of a proper lid.
Repurchase: Definitely, I have five full-size micellar waters to get through first, however.
One of my absolute favourite foundation. I bought Deauville in September 2015, and Mont Blanc mid-2016 and have just finished them both. This foundation isn’t overly glowy and has a really buildable coverage. It blends fantastically and looks better if you use your hands first, and then go over with a Beauty Blender. I love this foundation for Winter because it stays put well, and doesn’t dry my skin out. It’s also a good “quick” foundation because you can blend it easily.
Repurchase: Yes! I need it back in my life stat.
Another of my favourites (my main two) is Double Wear Foundation. I have been a few shades in this over the years, most recently Cool Bone, but before that, Desert Beige (when I was also NARS Deauville). This foundation is my biggest recommendation in makeup to absolutely everyone, and I have been using it for about eight years off and on. It stays completely put, so is my number one Summer foundation and although I do wear it in Winter, it dries my skin somewhat because it’s trying to stay on my skin. This foundation suits oily skin which I used to have, but still treats my combination skin well as long as I moisturise well, and prime with my Hourglass No.28 Primer Serum.
Repurchase: I already did, now I get to open my backup I bought back in May when the Gift With Purchase was on!
At first, I didn’t see the fuss with this, because I bought it in Winter, but come Summer and I sure knew! This is the primer I use with 90% of my foundations to keep them staying on my face. My only issues with this is that mine seem to go runny after a short time and I have to open them, stir them, shake them and put them in the fridge sometimes to fix them.
Repurchase: Already have.
My other favourite primer, and highly underrated in my opinion is this one by Hourglass. I was recommended this to go with my NARS Sheer Glow back in 2015, but when I actually tried them together, I hated it. Sheer Glow fell off my face when I used this primer, so I switched it up and tried it with Double Wear instead. It was love at first use! For skin that is somewhat dry like mine in the t-zone, this primer works a treat for the extra moisturiser barrier, but it is still tacky enough to keep makeup on for the most part. The effect I get with Double Wear is a soft glowy effect, that is not super matte as Double Wear is intended to be. Highly recommend this combination if you have the chance.
Repurchase: Already have.
I received this as a sample in a Shop and Box Order I did in 2015. I finally got around to using it, and I can see why it is never talked about, there isn’t much to say. It’s a moisturising primer, with glitter particles which did nothing for my makeup, and I wasn’t a fan.
I actually love this foundation but felt that this colour was slightly too dark. I have since purchased Fairly Light Neutral but I actually think this is too dark as well. Tarte foundations have a knack of all being Orange on the hand but a fair bit better on the actual face. I love the texture of this foundation, it is moussy and a little bit goes a long way. It is long lasting and has a really nice “airbrush” effect to the face. Amazonian Clay Foundation is one of the only ones I have that can be applied with both a brush and a Beauty Blender.
Repurchase: Already have.
I can’t remember when I got this sample from but I quite like this primer. It really is pore filling and I tend to use it in conjunction with the Hourglass Mineral Veil primer on my t-zone because that’s where all my pores are. It has a slippy texture and is quite thick.
Repurchase: I have another deluxe sample to use up before I decide, but I could probably live without it, it’s not life changing.
I started off hating this mascara, simply because it was too wet and smudged all the time. I didn’t love it by the end of its life, but I did quite like it! It dried enough for me to get along with, gave my lashes volume and coated them really evenly, but the smudging was still a major issue.
Repurchase: Maybe in the mini size! I am not interested in buying mascaras in the full size anymore because I can’t use them up.
I really liked this nail polish shade, and it was probably one of my most used shades before it went gloopy or whatever the technical term of old nail polishes is. I only bought it early 2016! This is a great neutral shade and I’d definitely repurchase it. Essie is one of my favourite formulas as you don’t usually need to layer it up. When you do layer it, it tends to flake off quicker in my experience.
